The following experience may involve precognition, or thought transference........I'm really not sure, though.
One morning in February of 2003, right before I awoke from sleep, I was in a vivid dream scene or vision in which I was struggling to help an older woman walk up a steep, slippery incline toward an open doorway. We were arm in arm. We neared the top a couple times and slipped back down. Finally, we reached the top, where I got a brief glimpse through the open doorway. The scene was stunningly beautiful......a glowing green meadow-like landscape full of trees and flowers, and lots of warm light. The incline we were on suddenly started to pitch forward as if to propel us through the doorway, and then I woke up.
I had no idea what on earth that dream was all about.
A few hours later we received a phone call from a relative saying that my husband's grandmother had passed away that morning, alone in her home. She was elderly, but had not been ill, so her death was unexpected.
Grandma and I had been good friends. Maybe in her last few moments of life she was thinking of her loved ones, and right then I happened to be in that sensitive state of almost waking up and her thoughts got through into my dream. I don't know. It was Grandma's "good-bye" to me, and I treasure the memory.
Maybe very emotional thoughts and states of mind can travel to others. There is so much we don't know about our minds and consciousness.
Actually, this experience is what got me started in paying attention to dreams!

I haven't had any experience quite like that but I think I understand the general feeling you're trying to describe.
